it is happening in san francisco where a house fire has taken a life in the city's engel side district. good evening. i'm carolyn johnson. >> i'm dan ashley. firecrews are on the scene and it is happening at a home in engel side heights.

abc7 news reporter ama dates is live with the latest on this. ama? >> dan, fire officials will confirm one person was found dead in the house. they will not say anything about the victim's identitiment we are are -- identity. we are a block away from the house. you can see what it looked like when we arrived on scene. it broke out about 8:40. about 40 firefighters responded, and they were able to put the fire out in 40 minutes. it burned through the garage and the second floor of the home. one person was found dead inside. now it wasn't the resident or the neighbor who called the fire in. it was an off duty firefighter who smelled smoke. >> firefighters have had good noses. they smelled like some wood was burning somewhere. they let the you are fireman owkn. >> reporter: and most of the damage was contained to that house on the corner.

there was some smoke damage to the house next to it. one person has been confirmed dead, and they are finishing up at the scene. the fire officials tell me they will board it up as a crime scene so police and arson investigators can look into exactly what happened. ama dates, abc7 news. >> thank you. breaking news tonight, the contra costa county sheriff's department is investigating a homicide happening near the interstate of 680 and concord avenue. we are told the body of an adult was found on the 680 on-ramp near concord avenue. stay with ab -- abc news for the latest on this. >> and developing news. authorities have caught up with founder john mcafee. he was arrested in guatemala accused of entering the country illegally. the 67-year-old who founded mac uh fee anti-virus software has been on the run for the past month after officials in belize tried to question him about the death of a neighbor. mac uh fee has denied any wrong doing.

abc news spoke with mcafee in guatemala. >> how would i know? >> mcafee says he requested asylum in guatemala. he claims he is being persecuted for refusing to donate to local politicians. a reprieve for local politicians. it will not be taken over by authorities. the city reached a deal with civil rights attorneys. they want a deal that will require them to make more than 50 reforms that still haven't happened. the judge threatened to give control to federal authorities. if oaknd la does not reform -- if oakland does not reform faster. the person will have the power to demote staff and over rule the chief and even fire the chief. the civil rights attorneys and the mayor says it is power is necessary to make the reform. >> he will have responsibility to look at the area such as racial profiling and properly

pointing weapons a the minorities. >> it will help us bring down crime in the city. >> the department has until the end of next year to complete the reforms. >> some breaking news out of the sierra. a woman has been found injured and her boyfriend is dead after the couple was reported missing last week. we have been following this story. they were last seen in the sacramento area and were heading from citrus heights back to nevada. authorities say they were in a collision of some kind. paula lane was fnd in alpine county tonight. she has been life flighted to a hospital. but her boyfriend is apparently dead. people in t east bay may have felt their homes shaking. one measured 2.9 and the other 1.8. there are no reports of any other damages. >> l's move on to the

weather. the rain has moved out thankfully and the fog is moving in. here is abc7 news meteorologist sandhya patel with a look at live doppler 7hd. >> looking at doppler 7hd you can see it is quiet for a change. we have our own radar. it was keeping you ahead of the storm. here is what the storm brought, an inch in santa rosa and 1.19 in sonoma county. san francisco over an inch and oakland picked up .89. a third of an inch in concord and san jose and livermore just over half an inch. the fog has formed and look at the visibility. it is just over a mile in half moon bay. three miles in santa rosa and novato. we are looking at poor visibility around livermore and the napa area, 7 to eight miles there. in the morning the fog may be dense in pockets. you will want to give yourself extra time. the temperatures will be

falling, and it will be a chilly start. we will be back with the numbers and a look at your weekend in a few minutes. >> chilly, but dry. >> a portion of highway 1 is closed because of a rock slide. it hit the road between fort ross and meyers grade roads just north of generaller there. you can see it on the map. the debris is gone, but you can see the damage to highway 1. a small section has collapsed. cal trans hopes to have the road open again by noontime tomorrow. more road troubles. there is progress, but still a long way to go in the effort to repair a massive sinkhole in love lafayette, and now they are facing a sinkhole of their own. alan wang is live where storm repairs are well underway. >> reporter: the ground is mushy out hoar tonight, but the coming dry weather should give crews a chance to start rebuilding this washed out road. it will also give everyone a chance to start cleaning up. there is plenty of work to be done as the bay area starts to dry out.

it took all day just to trim down the valley oak tree that fell on a home in lafayette. the tree cutters will be back tomorrow. utility and construction crews will be back on mountain view drive that collapsed on sunday night. several utility lines were snapped after debris clogged the culvers and floodwaters rushed under theoad. >> they were working to restore the gas line and the power and were ensuring a temporary sewer line was in place. >> reporter: this morning's rains hampered crews and began laying rocks in the creek beds to stop the runoff from eroding it any further. >> and with that in position you can begin to actually replace the culver and put a new pipe in place. >> reporter: in neighboring arinda they clogged a culver and opened up a sinkhole about four feet deep meanwhile city councilors are looking for money for repairs. >> we are exploring the fema

funds as an emergency. we are looking at getting this area and other areas in uh rine do -- in arinda by a state, and it will give as you chance to get some of the money reimbursed. >> so far there is no estimated price on the damage left behind by these storms. but the replacement of this culvert alone will be several million dollars. alan wang, abc7 news. >> alan, thank you. and we will have more on the fog that is moving in later in the weather segment. tune into the abc7 morning news starting at 4:30 to see how the fog will affect your commute whether you are driving or flying. a dispute of the price of crab is keeping fishermen on the ground. before thanksgiving they were earning $3 a pound, but prices took a dive after the holiday. according to the san francisco chronicle fish brokers are paying as little as $1.80 a

pound. last yore crab fishermen were on sale for a week. a san francisco restaurant open for 100 years could be forced to move if the warriors' new stadium was built. they told the owners of the house not to worry. however an environmental impact report underway right now could force a move if it finds an important structure needs to be built on the current location. developers may have to reassess what to do with the business. the report will be ready to review sometime next summer. >> trouble in cairo as trouble breaks out. why egyptians are fighting egyptians. >> a bicyclist is gunned down on a berkeley street. the crime that left a family and a neighborhood stunned and worried. >> could i please speak to kate please, my granddaughter? >> and the prank call that is rocking the royal family. >> all of that is coming up and then on "nightline.

well, a protest in egypt erupted in a deadly exchange by rocks and firebombs. opponents of mohamed morsi torched the offices with molotov cocktails. it started with a peaceful protest in cairo, but that ended when they chased off his opponents and then they faced off with rocks and weapons. 276 others were injured. it was sparked because the president passed laws to give himself near absolute power. a woman who devoted her

loif caring for others was gunned down. they found her body near sacramento and ward streets. tonight her family and friends are in mourning. leslie brinkley is at the imerkly -- is at the berkeley police department for us. leslie? >> reporter: that's right, carolyn. police tonight identify the victim as tift-year-old pam mullins of berkeley. she died at about this hour last night as she road her boy sickle. >> we got a call of possibly a bicyclist in an injury collision. >> reporter: that was 11:30 on tuesday night. when police arrived they found a woman on the sidewalk in front of longfellow middle school. her family said she had been shot once in the head as she road her bike. and she died on the sidewalk and and they were one block away on sacramento street. candles spelled out her name as relatives stood here stunned to see her die.

>> we wish she was sill here. >> she said she road her bicycle to jobs in the neighborhood as a caregiver to senior citizens. >> she was a loving person. she wept to work and came home. why would someone want to do something like this to her? >> her brother described her as very giving to the community. >> a kind person. he helped all of the homeless people. >> why someone shot mullins is still a mystery. police are investigating. we will see if they have anymore potential witnesses. >> police are asking for the public's help in solving this murder. i talked to several residents in the area and they say it has been a relatively safe neighborhood, but in the last few months there have been shooting incidents and this heightens their fear. leslie brinkley, abc news. a recall alert tonight. a complaint by the product safety commission charges the

new models are dangerous. the portable bby recliner has been blamed for five deaths and more than 70 injuries. two previous models were recalled in 2010. the commission is asking for an order requiring them to notify the public about a product defect and offered consumers a full refund. two dj's are apologizing for a prank phone call they made to the hospital room of the newly pregnant duchess of cambridge. one of them i'm person thatted thatted -- impersonated queen elizabeth. >> this is the thursday speaking. >> i am just after my granddaughter, kate, i want to see how her tummy bug is going. >> a pretty poor impression. the dj said it was all in fun, and they hope they didn't cause any problems. the hospital though actually gave private information to the dj's about kate's condition. the hospital also apologizing. the duchess has been in the hospital since her pregnancy

was announced. she is suffering from a severe form of morning sickness. poor taste and a poor queen impersonation. let's go back and the forecast is finally get something sunshine. >> meteorologist sandhya patel is here now. >> as we look at live doppler 7hd you will notice we don't have any rain to speak of. we are watching the fog. that's what is going to be a problem in the morning. visibility is just over a mile with that in half moon bay. it is under 1.8 right now. give yourself extra time for the morning commute. this is a lovely view off highway 1. he said it was a stormy morning. indeed it was with that storm coming through the bay area. temperatures in the 50s at this hour, and as we look at the forecast here is what is coming. foggy areas for the morning commute. mostly sunny days ahead, and we are looking at a milder pattern.

nicer weather uhed -- ahead. it did soak us this morning, but the front is long gone now. the high pressure is building in. we have a low-level moisture and we combine that with the building of high pressure and we can count on the fog for the morning commute. tomorrow morning you will have to watch out for some fog and it could be dense in pockets. temperatures first thing in the morning will start out on the chilly side. so grab a coat or jacket, and the kids have a jacket or sweater. temperatures in the midto upper 40s around santa rosa and napa. livermore, 51 in oakland and san jose, san mateo out toward half moon bay. this isn't going to be a coastal foggy vent or a valley foggy vent. fog event. sfo, you might face delays, but keep it in mind. tomorrow afternoon's highs we are looking at 59 in cloverdale and half moon bay and san mateo on the peninsula, san francisco 60 and oakland and san jose all

62 degrees. you will see bright, sunny skies for the afternoon. the fog will lift, and around the monterey bay, 62 degrees for you in morgan hill. it is a big day. the raiders are taking on the broncos tomorrow. sunset at 4:50. at 5:20 we will see the temperature drop to 58 and down to 54 as the game gets underway. it looks dry right now and fabulous. we are looking at a dry forecast for football. as we check out the accu-weather seven-day forecast it is looking bright and sunnier day by day. the temperatures will come up a little milder. low to mid60s and then we will keep it even milder heading into early next week. a steady pattern through wednesday. i think it is safe to wash those cars. but once again make sure you give yourselves a little extra time. the fog could be problematic.

here is something you don't see every day. behind the wheel of a car and shifting. this video was shot by the spca in new england. they want to help rescued dogs get into good homes by showing how intelligent they are. they use doggie treats to train the animals and touch the brakes and the steering wheel. it is very disturbing. lock at that image. next week they are putting the dogs to the ultimate road test. they will be driving live on national television in new zoe land. in new zealand. >> molly, my little dog at home, we have work to do. we are practicing. raiders day on abc7 kicks off tomorrow. larry beil is hosting a special raiders pre game show at 4:00 p.m. the greats will join us for

cal has a new football coach and we can expect the bears to come out throwing.

the bulldogs lead the nation in scoring. they averaged more than 51 points per game. they have been there for three years and they built the program. he runs a spread offense. they call it the air raid. it will bring some excitement, some really exciting football to berkeley. he can recruit california and not a huge name unless you are really into college football. he comes from a football family. he replaced tedford. cal will hold a news conference tomorrow. one player he will not get a chance to coach is the all-time leading receiver keenan alan. he just finished his downyes, sir season and finished with 2500 receiving yards, third in school history. alan is a tremendous threat and a punt returner and he will definitely be a first round pick in the spring in the nfl draft. the raiders are looking to snap a five-game losing streak against one of the best

teams. they are hosting peyton manning and the denver broncos. we will have that game live pre game at 4:00 p.m. over the course of his storied career peyton manning played only twice. most recently in 2010. that was a 31-26 colts victory. the first meeting of the year between oakland and denver came in week four. manning torched the raiders for 338 yards and three touchdowns. it was a 37-6 blowout. the grone -- the broncos are 10-point favorites and the could i for them is preventing a let down. >> it is a tough place to blai. i know i can tell you a little more about this division. the second time you play a team, when you play them at home or play them away, as a division game, i know on prime time, i have always played there during the day and it will be a tough place to play. >> the warriors began a seven-game road trip. a two-week voyage that began in detroit.

mark jackson's warriors were a game behind first place. david leigh, two of his 20 points and had 11 rebounds. warrior bise two at the half. warriors by two at the half. a season high 39 points in the period. klay thompson lighting it up. he had 19 in the quarter thanks to four straight three's. it was a game high 27 points and knocking down jumpers. the warriors lead by 18. curry 22 points and four assists. the warriors held off a late distance come back and they improve to 11-7. they beat dough troit 104 -- detroit 104-97. abc7 sports brought to you by river rock casino. >> larry, thanks.
